History

The Vinings United Methodist Church was founded in 1872 by Solomon Pace, R.N. McAfee, and H.I.Randall. Services were first held in a house owned by Mr. Solomon on Paces Ferry Road near the existing railroad tracks. Founding members also included Hardy Randall’s wife, Laura, and Richard Robinson. During approximately the first four and one-half years of the life of the Vinings Methodist Church there was a total of ten members.

In 1900, the original house being used for services was torn down and the first Church building was erected at this location. The basement of the church building was used for a school. Church services were held continuously at this location until November 10, 1941, when the church building was destroyed by fire. At that time, some furnishings from the church were salvaged from the fire and moved into a building that had once been used as the local Vinings School. Church services were held the following  Sunday in the old Vinings School building, which now is the present location of the Vinings United Methodist Church.

Over the years, numerous additions and improvements have been made to the old church building and grounds. It is the goal of the current membership to continue to expand and grow not only the church family, but also the church facilities. It is our goal to continue the dynamic presence this church has exhibited over the many years in this community by continuing to reach out to meet the needs of our community. We are pleased to be able to offer a small community park in the back area of our church, complete with picnic tables and  a playground  open to all in the Vinings community. Our doors are open not only for worship, but also to serve as a place to provide support and meeting areas for various community groups seeking a place to meet. Bible studies are ongoing and always open to the community at large. The church sign fronting on busy Paces Mill Road serves to signal to the community that we are open, welcoming, and actively engaged in the mission and purpose of presenting God’s word to His people. We hope you will come and join us in our mission.
